Visual Arts
This project is a school assignment created using the Rokoko Smartsuit Pro 2, a full-body motion capture suit, integrated into Unity.
The experience is designed as an interactive museum game in which players must match poses displayed in front of them. By physically recreating these poses, players learn about daily life and labor in the Netherlands during the 1300s.
The project was developed specifically for an interactive museum concept for University Museum Utrecht (UMU), Netherlands.
What happens in the game
Players travel back to the 14th century, exploring a medieval Dutch village. Throughout the experience, they encounter different historical scenarios and professions, learning:
- How people lived in the Middle Ages
- What kind of work they performed
- How physical labor shaped daily life
Progress in the game is achieved by accurately matching historical poses and movements using the motion capture suit.
Why Motion Capture hardware?:
The Rokoko Smartsuit Pro 2 had never been used before by our school. We were given the opportunity to experiment with this hardware and explore its potential beyond traditional motion recording.
Although the suit is typically used for animation and performance capture, we successfully repurposed it into an interactive gameplay mechanic, proving that motion capture technology can also create engaging, educational, and playful experiences.
